Life at TCPA extends far beyond the classroom. Students broaden their horizons through a range of athletics, extracurricular activities, volunteerism, and pursuit of spiritual awareness. As they explore their interests and talents in non-academic settings, they also develop social and leadership skills.
TCPA seeks to develop all aspects of a student: academic, physical, emotional and spiritual. Our Catholic identity and the practice of Christian values in a loving environment leads to a strong moral conscience.
Religious education lays the basis for a deeper awareness of God’s presence around us and throughout the world. We not only believe in God's love, but include Him in our day to day happenings and events.
We create a culture of spirituality through:
- Catholic atmosphere and identity
- Prayer throughout the day
- Religious studies classes
- Liturgies and prayer services throughout the year
- Annual retreats
Students thrive where respect, responsibility and reverence live. As part of a Catholic community, TCPA provides opportunities for students to experience and understand the joy of reaching out to serve others in peace, justice and love.
Service is performed within the school community, such as helping teachers, organizing fundraisers or collecting items for such causes as hurricane relief, our military, food for Mt. Carmel Guild and more. As an example, cards from our young students have touched the hearts of our elderly veterans.
Students can also become very hands-on through service in their community and see the fruits of their labors. Students serve food at the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, visit the elderly in assisted living, donate blood and more. While mandatory service requirements exist for each year of high school, many students go beyond their minimum hours as volunteerism becomes an ingrained habit for life.
Trenton Catholic Preparatory Academy encourages students to participate in athletic programs in order to develop and maintain physical fitness and wellness, as well as a sense of good sportsmanship and school spirit.
Athletic programs seek to provide opportunities for maximum participation by the general school population. All interscholastic athletic programs comply with local, state and diocesan athletic guidelines and requirements.
The school’s facilities have received a tremendous amount of renovation. A new track and field surface was applied in Fall 2011, leading several meet officials to call it the best track in Mercer County. The baseball and soccer fields have been renovated, with new bleachers for the latter. In addition, the gymnasium has received air conditioning, new lights, flooring, and painting.
Lower School Athletics
The Lower School offers basketball, soccer, track, cross country, tennis and weight training. Several of these teams compete against other schools in the Mercer County CYO, and TCPA routinely fields one of the best basketball and track teams in the county.
Upper School Athletics
The Upper School fields competitive, championship teams in soccer, basketball, cheer, softball and track & field. Many recent Iron Mike athletes have gone on to play at college, including 10 members of the 2010 boys Tournament of Champions basketball team.
School is much more than learning from books or in the classrooms. Students are encouraged to explore their interests by getting involved in the many clubs, activities and events that TCPA offers.
